Accreditation problems spur calls for resignations in Clayton County
By Charles Edwards
Atlanta, GA – Today, two organizations called for Clayton County school board members to resign.
The requests come as the metro Atlanta school district faces a September deadline to keep its accreditation.
The Clayton County Education Association, the county's largest teacher union, knew it would call for resignations once it heard from the Southern Association of College and Schools.
Association President Sid Chapman.
CHAPMAN: If anyone was implicated in the SACS report we would call for the resignation.
The report accused board members Lois Baines Hunter, Norreese Haynes, Rod Johnson and Sandra Scott of unethical behavior. So, the Association asked those 4 to resign. However, the NAACP wants all 9 nine board members to step down. Dr. Francys Johnson heads the organization's Georgia chapter.
JOHNSON: This will send a clear signal to SACS a clear signal to the community that we're turning the page.
Calls to all 9 board members were not returned by air time. But according to published reports, board chairwoman Ericka Davis is thinking about resigning in July.
