AFLAC Chairman Looks at Health Care Debate

Atlanta, GA – Dan Amos is chairman and CEO of AFLAC, the large supplemental insurance firm based in Columbus, GA. He says about 3/4 of the company's revenue comes from business in Japan, which has a national insurance plan.

At the recent economic forum at Emory University, Amos told WABE's Denis O'Hayer AFLAC would not be directly affected by whatever health care plan emerges in the U.S. That's because the company sells so-called "gap" insurance not major medical coverage. So, he says, he's neutral.

But Amos addressed the overall issue beginning with the basic debate over whether access to affordable health care is a right or not.
