Airport Plans Roadway Improvements
By Jim Burress
Atlanta, GA – Driving into Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport will get a bit easier, airport officials say.
Next month, officials plan to begin a two-year project to improve roadway access.
Construction plans call for close to 11-miles of new lanes, five new bridges, and the reconfiguration of existing roadways.
Jim Drinkard, Asst. General Manager for Planning and Development for Atlanta's airports, says the changes will make drivers more confident and comfortable.
"Three years from now, you'll realize that you as a traveling motorist have more time to make your decisions than you do now. And it will give you more time to make safe lane changes."
Drinkard says passengers won't lose any lanes during construction.
$4.50 Passenger Facility Charges -- tacked on to every airline ticket -- will fund the $50-million dollar project.
Construction could begin this summer.
