Astros to rename park "Minute Maid Field"
Atlanta – The Houston Astros will rename their ballpark "Minute Maid Field."
The Astros' ballpark was formerly known as Enron Field, but that name was dropped in the wake of that company's well-documented financial scandal.
The Minute Maid Co. is based in Houston and is owned by Atlanta-based The Coca-Cola Co. (NYSE: KO).
"We've formed a new relationship with an old friend," said Drayton McLane, owner of the Houston Astros. "The partnership between Coca-Cola and Major League Baseball extends back to before the turn of the century -- the 20th century. And Minute Maid has been a proud part of Houston for almost as long as the Astros."
The multi-year partnership includes naming rights for Astros Field, an extension of the Minute Maid Squeeze Play attraction at the stadium, pouring rights for Coca-Cola products, ongoing advertising and marketing programs and a commitment by Minute Maid to support youth baseball programs in the Houston area.
