Atlanta 22nd "Most Walkable" City in US

Downtown Atlanta is one area that is considered \"walkable\" by the survey.

Atlanta, GA – The study found several in-town neighborhoods, such as Poncey-Highlands, Five Points and Midtown to be highly walkable. Generally, areas west and south of downtown were most car-dependent.

Sally Flocks is head of PEDS, a pedestrian-advocacy organization. She says Atlanta is similar to other cities in the Southeast, in that it grew up in the age of the automobile. But, she says, recent trends are for the city to become more pedestrian-friendly.

"There's a tremendous economic value to walkability, and it's really encouraging people to think about that when they think about where they want to live.:

San Francisco is the easiest place for pedestrians. Jacksonville, Florida the most difficult. The ranking comes from the website Walkscore.com- and at 22nd, it puts Atlanta just about mid-pack.
