Atlanta Medical Center wants to renovate ER

Atlanta – Atlanta Medical Center is seeking state certification for a $4.8 million renovation of its emergency room.
The hospital's emergency department has not been renovated in 20 years and is in desperate need of reconfiguration, said spokesperson Adrienne Wade.
Atlanta Medical Center is owned by Tenet Healthcare Corp., which recently forked over $8 million to complete an overhaul of the emergency facilities at South Fulton Medical Center part of a $30 million capital improvement plan for that Tenet-owned hospital.
State health planning officials will review the medical center's certificate-of-need (CON) application before approving the project.
Meanwhile, Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville is looking for a green light from the state to add 96 acute-care beds to the crowded hospital. The 418-bed nonprofit hospital, part of the Northeast Georgia Health System, is spread over two campuses. The cost of the project is estimated at $17.9 million.
