Clayton Parents Await March 15 Decision

Atlanta, GA – Tomorrow in Chicago, the National Accreditation Commission decides whether to revoke Clayton County's school accreditation, if it doesn't shape up by September first. Meanwhile, many Clayton parents are taking action in their own way.

Vernetta Reeves has a daughter in the eleventh grade she's worried:

REEVES: This date is crucial to all of us, even though everybody's focusing on that September 1st, because it's time for us to make a decision.

a decision on whether or not to pull their children out of Clayton County Schools after this school year ends, on May 30th. Reeves is looking at prices for private schools.

But the mother of another eleventh grader, Jessie Goree, is challenging the accreditation report. She's written to each of the 31 national accreditation commissioners, because she thinks the school district was evaluated unfairly:

GOREE: I'm hoping that the commission members will at least look and say maybe the report wasn't as thorough as it could be.

Goree says she will not pull her son from the system, no matter what.
