Clayton Superintendent responds to loss of accreditation
By Charles Edwards
Atlanta, GA – Those optimistic about Clayton's chances for reinstatement include the school district's superintendent.
John Thompson is appealing SACS' decision.
Even though Superintendent Thompson did not anticipate a loss of accreditation, he's steadfast.
THOMPSON: we remained determined and continue to work and will not rest until accreditation is restored to this school district. We will not rest. Did you hear me? We are not going to rest.
Thompson hopes his confidence will spread to the county's teachers and administrators whose morale was dealt a body blow by SACS' decision. He also hopes to convince even more parents not to transfer their students out of Clayton schools.
Thompson says the county's 23 hundred page corrective plan shows Clayton is on the right track. He plans to take that document and a notice to appeal of SACS' decision to a national accrediting commission.
THOMPSON: We just hope to get a good set of ears to listen and see what we've done.
The county's has 10 days to file a notice of appeal.
