Cobb Symphony Orchestra Plays Its Final Note

There's good news and bad news for the performing arts community in Cobb County.
The Cobb Symphony Orchestra is performing its farewell concert this evening.
That's the bad news but the good news will even the score.

There's good news and bad news for the performing arts community in Cobb County. The Cobb Symphony Orchestra is performing its farewell concert this evening. That's the bad news but the good news will even the score. Marjorie Coley has the story.

After a 60 year run, the Cobb Symphony Orchestra is saying good bye but they're not going away entirely, they're expanding and changing their name to the Georgia Symphony Orchestra. Michael Alexander is the conductor and musical director of the GSO. Alexander says the change will allow the GSO to move its programs into the northern corridor.

Michael Alexander says, "we think the future of the arts is in collaboration.
And I think this just allows us more opportunities to be able to collaborate and to share what we love to do with more people."

The GSO is already scheduled to perform at Reinhardt University next year.
On May 8th 2011, the GSO performed Mozart's Requiem at the Murray Arts Center in Kennesaw.
