Delta Air Lines continuing Africa investment

Atlanta, GA – Next week, Delta Air Lines adds two non stop daily international flights to its schedule. Both are to Africa marking the Atlanta airline's continued investment in the continent.

Starting Monday, Delta will fly non stop from Atlanta to Johannesburg, South Africa 4 times a week. On Tuesday, the airline begins offering similar service between Atlanta and Nairobi, Kenya.

In 2006, Delta became the only U.S. airline to fly its planes to Africa. Before then, Delta executive Glen Hauenstein says airlines flew from America to Europe and then to Africa.

HAUENSTEIN: "People were flying almost straight north to go straight south. So, we were able to cut an immense amount of time out of transit time between the US and Africa."

Hauenstein says Delta was also able to tap into Africa's economy, one of the fastest growing in the world.

Delta's African expansion continues in June with routes to Liberia and Nigeria. Two more African routes are scheduled for later in the year.
