Delta chief estimates corporate job cuts from merger
By Charles Edwards
Atlanta, ga – Delta Air Lines estimates a merger with Northwest could result in 1,000 job cuts at the corporate level.
Delta CEO Richard Anderson hinted at possible job losses while pushing the merger onto Congress today.
However, merger expert Dan Kolber says the message was also intended for the stock market worried about the impact of rising fuel costs on the airline industry.
KOLBER: They have to identify the cost savings and the most obvious cost savings is you eliminate redundancy of performance and most obvious is people.
A Delta spokeswoman says any job cuts would not go into effect until 2009 when the airline anticipates federal approval.
