Delta clamors for energy policy
By Charles Edwards
Atlanta, GA – Oil prices have skyrocketed to well over 100 dollars a barrel. And Delta Air Lines partly blames the federal government for not keeping costs down.
While speaking to the Federal Aviation Administration, Delta CEO Richard Anderson slammed the federal government for not having an energy policy in place.
Dan Kolber of the Baker Donelson law firm says Anderson is pushing for government intervention.
KOLBER: But I think it's also a way to diffuse the traveling public from being upset with certain changes that you're going to see in order to respond to the rising fuel.
On Monday, Delta joined other carriers and raised ticket prices by 10 dollars to offset fuel costs. Moving forward, Kolber says he wouldn't be surprised to see the airlines start canceling flights that aren't full.
A spokesperson for Delta did say the airline plans to cutback on some domestic flights and on its number of regional jets.
