Delta rolls out new fees
By Charles Edwards
Atlanta, GA – Starting today, passengers on Delta Air Lines will have to pay new or increased fees for service.
It's part of the Atlanta air carrier's continued attempt to offset rising fuel costs.
Now, there's a 3 dollar per bag fee for curbside checking and a 25 dollar handing fee for booking a Delta flight connecting to another airline. Those are just some of the latest new expenses facing Delta customers.
Just last week, Delta said it would charge passengers 25 dollars for checking a 2nd bag. Delta hopes revenue from these fees will make up for soaring fuel prices.
BOYD: Just keep in mind, there's limit to how far you can push fees.
Airline consultant Mike Boyd says it will cost Delta money and manpower to implement the fees.
BOYD: It's going to be at the fare level where we're going to see increases.
Boyd thinks Delta's recent 10 dollar round trip hike was the tip of the iceberg. Delta has not announced plans for more fair increases but says it will continue to review all aspects of its business.
