Election group says minor tweaking needed before Georgians vote in November
By Charles Edwards
Atlanta, GA – As the Secretary of State's office fine tunes Georgia's voting process, a voters rights group offers advice.
With almost 2 million votes cast, about 900 voters called Georgia Election Protection. Some needed help finding their precincts. Others complained of long lines up to 2 hours in some precincts. The voting bottleneck came from a lack of new express poll machines. Poll workers use the computers, instead of a printed list, to check voter registration and that seemed to slow things down.
Charlie Lester heads Georgia Election Protection.
LESTER: Well I think what we would urge them to do is look carefully at their allocation of equipment and personnel particularly in the larger precincts.
Other than the poll machines, Lester applauds the state for a rather smooth Super Tuesday. He says not many voters called about Georgia's new controversial requirement to show a government issued photo ID in order to vote.
