Ernie Harwell Recalls the Atlanta Crackers

Atlanta, Ga – Before the Braves moved to Atlanta, the city rallied around their minor league team, the Atlanta Crackers. From 1946 to 1948, the voice of the Crackers was Ernie Harwell.

Harwell moved from Atlanta to Brooklyn and eventually to Detroit, where he became the voice of the Tigers for 42 years. In 1981, he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame and has garnered numerous other awards and honors--including his February induction into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in Macon.

Harwell retired following the 2002 baseball season. He currently resides in Novi, Michigan.
