Extending Atlanta's Bar Hours?
By Jim Burress
Atlanta, GA – Before the city rolled back bar hours in 2003, Walda Lavroff and many in her Buckhead neighborhood association were fed up with inebriated partiers:
"They would run all over people's yards, and void in the yards of people. There were shootings and there were stabbings."
So keeping bars open from the current 2:30 until 4AM
"I think that would be less favorably looked at," said Lavroff.
Councilman Kwanza Hall introduced the plan. He says the city should consider the financial and public safety aspects of changing bar hours.
"This is not about just extending to 4AM, I'm not asking for that. I'm asking for a study."
Hall has heard a lot about the proposal. That could mean a change in what residents hear tonight. One new option: special entertainment districts with different hours than residential areas.
Public comment starts at 6 at Atlanta City Hall.
