Fallout Begins from Corrupt Police Officer Case
By Odette Yousef
Atlanta, GA – A man serving prison time because of the testimony of two discredited Atlanta police officers is free. Mingus Williams, who was convicted of drug crimes, was released from prison today.
In April, officers Gregg Junnier and Jason Smith admitted that they lied to obtain a warrant to enter the home of 92-year-old Kathryn Johnston. The raid resulted in her death.
That admission prompted a review of all the past arrests that those officers made. Mingus Williams is the first of those to be freed.
Mark Issa, one of Williams' attorneys, says he hasn't been told why, exactly, Fulton County investigators decided to release his clients.
ISSA: The only thing we can assume is that potentially, Mingus Williams' case would fall into that gamut of illegally obtained information, or illegally obtained warrants or searches, or even arrests.
Williams served roughly nine months of a 10-year sentence. His attorney says Williams may consider a lawsuit against the officers.
