FEMA Fanning Out To Assess Flood Damage
By Dave Bender
Atlanta, Ga. – FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate, in a conference call with reporters on Thursday, says they're not stinting on aid to the counties that are eligible for federal diaster aid, as of Friday afternoon:
"We are not going to limit ourselves, either, to the initial request for 17 counties. There may be additional areas as we go through, in the next couple days that we find more damages "
FEMA spokesperson Jody Cottrill said that one of several Disaster Recovery Centers opened Friday morning in hard-hit Austell in Cobb County:
"The DRC's are there to provide people information to answer their questions. They can register online at www.disasterassistance.gov, or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA - that's 3362."
Atlanta city officials say they will also seek federal aid for some 1,900 residents, and almost 500 homes that sustained damage in the five-day flooding.
