First Obama-McCain poll in Georgia

Atlanta, GA – A new poll shows Barack Obama could win the Presidential race in Georgia; a feat not accomplished by a Democrat since Bill Clinton.

The poll might explain why Obama is getting a head start on airing television ads in Georgia.

An Insider Advantage poll shows Republican John McCain and Obama in a dead heat.

There are many reasons why according to Emory University political science professor Merle Black.

BLACK: Obama has already consolidated huge support in the African American community. So, we expect to see the largest turnout of African-Americans in the history of Georgia and that combined with John McCain not running as well among white voters as George Bush did.

Plus, 6 percent of voters surveyed support Libertarian candidate and former Georgia Congressman Bob Barr.

The poll comes as Obama begins airing a television ad in Georgia and 17 other states. It features Obama evoking patriotic themes. Black says it's an attempt to court rural, white Georgians away from McCain.
