GBI Director Vernon Keenan Says Georgia's New Human Trafficking Law Already Shows Results
By Denis O'Hayer
Atlanta, GA – It's been a month since Gov. Nathan Deal signed a new law, with much tougher punishments for people engaged in human trafficking, especially the sexual exploitation of children.
At a recent summit on human trafficking, held at Georgia State University, GBI director Vernon Keenan told WABE's Denis O'Hayer that, since the law went into effect, the GBI has set up a specialized unit to investigate human trafficking, and has started working closely with Federal and local law enforcement officials.
Keenan said, despite problems with funding at all levels, the joint effort is starting to pay off.
