Grady Hospital Ordered To Keep Open Dialysis Clinic

Atlanta – A Fulton County Superior Court Judge has stopped Grady from closing
its outpatient dialysis center... for now.

WABE's Odette Yousef reports.

Judge Ural Glanville issued an emergency injunction on Wednesday after
hearing the cases of two patients who rely on the center for their
life-saving dialysis treatments.

According to the order, all patients that use the center will be able
to continue their treatment there "until the court approves a
suitable alternative dialysis treatment plan that does not jeopardize
their lives or medical needs."

The center was slated to close on Sunday, but earlier this week about
one hundred patients and their advocates protested, saying they have
nowhere else to go. Those patients were either undocumented immigrants or permanent residents who haven't lived in Georgia long enough to qualify for
Medicaid.

Grady wants to close the dialysis center because it loses between $2
and $4 million a year.

Judge Glanville will hold a court hearing next Wednesday.
