Lawmakers Struggle for Transportation Funding Solution: Part 2 of a Conversation with the House Speaker

House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge)
Georgia General Assembly /

Atlanta, GA – Lawmakers returned to State Capitol Monday, April 12th; with just seven working days left in this year's session, and most major issues still unresolved.

For the third straight year, a bill to pay for transportation improvements could be in trouble. The Atlanta Regional Commission sent an alert to local government leaders in metro Atlanta; urging them to push lawmakers to pass the bill. It would allow voters in regions around the state to decide whether to raise their sales taxes a penny-on-the-dollar to pay for transportation projects in their regions.

In part 2 of a conversation with WABE's Denis O'Hayer, House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) tried to calm fears that the bill will fail again; saying an agreement is very close.
