McCain stumps in Atlanta
By Charles Edwards
Atlanta, GA – In Atlanta today, Republican voters asked their Presidential nominee, John McCain, questions about core conservative issues.
McCain held a town hall meeting at Chick-Fil-A's headquarters near the airport.
McCain breezed through tough talk on terrorism, Iraq and wasteful government spending. He was less enthusiastic about a question on illegal immigration.
MCCAIN: Yes, illegal immigration. This meeting is adjourned.
The joke was McCain's way of admitting conservatives didn't like his support of a 2006 bill granting legal status to illegal immigrants who meet certain conditions. Even still, McCain worked hard to court Georgia conservatives.
MCCAIN: We must secure our borders first. We have broken borders and we have to secure our borders first. We can do that.
Once that happens, McCain says then he'll support a temporary workers program.
McCain also called Georgia a competitive state and vowed to come back and fight for votes before November.
