NASA Awards Georgia Tech Grant to Study Climate Change

Atlanta – NASA has awarded Georgia Tech $2.4 million dollars to develop a new type of radar system that will help study global climate change.

Dr. John Papapolymerou is the project's principal investigator and says currently high-quality radar systems are clunky and too expensive.

The new radars will pick up the location, quantity and composition of ice formations across the globe. That information will then be used for long-term climate studies.

He says the award is another sign that Georgia Tech is leader in micro-electromechanical research.

The grant money will fund radar system development for three years.
