New Grady CEO Hopes to Break Even in 2-3 Years

Atlanta, GA – Grady Health Systems' incoming CEO hopes to have the financially troubled institution breaking even within 2 to 3 years. He spoke with reporters today, after spending the last few days visiting the Grady Hospital and preparing for his new post.

Michael Young started off by saying he understands Grady's historic mission in Atlanta, to care for the indigent and underserved:

YOUNG: Disease does not care what color you are, they don't care where you live, and neither do I. So our goal is to deliver health care that Atlanta can be proud of.

Still, to recover, the financially-troubled hospital, expected to lose 43 million dollars this year, will need to attract more paying patients. Part of that, he said, is changing Grady's image:

YOUNG: You bring honesty, integrity, fairness. You take the politics out of it. And when you do those things, Grady will be in the paper for the right reason, or on TV for the right reason.

Young said the other part, is to make the patient experience more efficient and consistent in quality. He begins the job in September.
