No Swine Flu Reported in Georgia, but Monitoring Efforts Stepped Up

Atlanta, GA – With mounting concern over a pandemic, the Georgia Division of Public Health has stepped up its monitoring.

The state's health lab has tested for swine flu all 2008 and 2009 influenza cases submitted through last Friday. All tested negative.

Still, division spokeswoman Belen Moran says she understands why so many are concerned.

"My daughter is scared, and she's seven. I explained what was our emergency communications plan. If something happens, we're going to stay home, or where will she go, or who we're going to talk to."

Moran suggests Georgians make an emergency plan--similar to what they might do in the event of a natural disaster.

Meanwhile, all 18 of the state's health districts and state emergency responders are in daily communication in case a swine flu case does appear in Georgia.
