Police Changes Irk East Atlanta Residents

Atlanta, GA – At least some residents are upset about changes announced earlier this week in Atlanta's Police Department. Several residents of East Atlanta, don't want their popular Zone 6 commander to be reassigned to the airport.

WABE's Odette Yousef reports.

Major Renee Propes has earned many residents' high regard for her skill in working with different governments and their respective agencies, in this part of the city that straddles both Fulton and DeKalb counties.

Anna Millman lives in Edgewood, and doesn't want to see Propes go:

MILLMAN: Unless this transfer for her is putting her on a track to be the new police chief of the city, then I'm very disappointed, I think they're squandering her talents.

Interim Police Chief Turner held a community meeting with residents last night, and will have another tonight, to hear their concerns.

Though councilmember Natalyn Archibong is not happy with the command changes, she says it's good that Turner is listening to the complaints:

ARCHIBONG: He has maintained a willingness that is quite remarkable and refreshing to keep engaged with the community.

Major John Dalton has been moved from the major crimes division to assume command of Zone 6.
