Political Columnist Bill Shipp Retiring Part 1

Atlanta, GA – Political columnist Bill Shipp, who influenced generations of Georgia leaders and journalists, wrote his last column earlier this month. He first made news in 1953, while a student editor at the Red and Black the University of Georgia's student newspaper.Shipp and other editors wrote a series of editorials, condemning the university's exclusion of Horace Ward an African-American law student on racial grounds.Shipp told WABE's Denis O'Hayer he never guessed the reaction would be so fierce.
