Reed reorganzies APD
By Charles Edwards
Atlanta, GA – In his first full day on the job, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed today announced a reorganization of the city's police department.
The Atlanta Police Department has promoted some of its officers while transferring others to different positions.
WABE's Charles Edwards reports
George Turner, Reed's acting police chief, is now not the only officer to be promoted from within after years of service. The same can now be said for the new Assistant Police chief Pete Andresen. He was over the Department's field operations. Now, he takes over the number two position in APD.
There are also new deputies for field operations, criminal investigations and support services as well as new zone commanders.

REED: "We needed to make several personnel changes because we're very focused on the morale of the Atlanta Police Department."
Some officers say it does help morale. They say the promotions are proof that hard work pays off. Many of those promoted have been with APD for at least 20 years.
Meanwhile, Mayor Reed and chief Turner said they're working to fully staff Atlanta's 911 call center and find a permanent head for that department.
