Safety inspection cancels Delta flights
By Charles Edwards
Atlanta, GA – Delta Air Lines today cancelled 275 flights so it can re-inspect some of its jets.
The MD-88 is the same type of aircraft at the center of an American Airlines review that led to hundreds of cancellations.
The federal government issued what's called an air worthiness directive for the MD-88s. In other words, there may be something wrong with the aircraft.
Susan Elliot is a Delta spokesperson.
ELLIOT: Now, the air worthiness directive involves certain bundle of wires is secured to the MD-88 aircraft and we are re-inspecting out MD-88's to make sure the wiring is installed and secured exactly according to the directive.
The wiring is related to the jet's hydraulic system.
Elliot says Delta's flight schedule should be back to normal tomorrow. In the meantime, passengers are waiting out the inspection at Hartsfield Jackson.
