Students Flood Georgia Gwinnett College
By Jonathan Shapiro
Atlanta, GA – In just its third year of existence, Georgia Gwinnett is attracting students in droves.
GGC President Daniel Kaufman says 500 more students showed up this semester than the school expected.
KAUFMAN: "Well we were concerned we'd have to hold classes out in the woods. But no, we've got the facilities to accommodate all the students. We did have to hire a few additional instructors, a few additional professors. It's a nice problem to have."
Kaufman says they've doubled their staff to meet the demand.
Courses in business management, information technology, and teacher education are the school's more popular.
KAUFMAN: "Education is counter-cyclical and in times of economic hardship people go back to school to add to their skill set. So we've gotten some folks who are coming back to finish that degree they never got finished or to complete a bachelors where they have an associates."
Next year, the school will be opening a residential dorm and a new library and hopes to roll out a nursing program.
