Atlanta, GA – Georgia's new transportation commissioner joined other officials for the start of the first state project funded with stimulus money. In his new job, former state representative Vance Smith won't have as much power as past transportation commissioners. Much of the long-term planning now goes to a new transportation planning director, appointed by the Governor. Smith told WABE's Denis O'Hayer he'll still have a voice in planning as the state struggles to find ways to pay for projects.
