UGA to Adopt New Tailgating Rules

Atlanta – The University of Georgia will implement strict tailgating rules beginning next football season. As Jonathan Shapiro reports, campus officials say tailgators were too loud and left too much trash behind.

The restrictions include no kegs, no campers, no loud music, and no large grills. The school is also banning any tailgating more than 4 hours before kickoff. UGA spokesman George Stafford says fans throughout the community had enough of the mess.

"What we did was in response to man many of our alums, our faculty and students who felt like something had to be done," says Stafford.

However, Stafford is realistic and knows tailgaters will find a way to continue their rituals. He says they'll just have to do off campus, where they can't do damage.

"They'll move around, they'll change what they're doing. We'll still have 92,000 fans in the stadium on Saturdays and they'll be jacked up about Georgia football," says Stafford.

Campus officials said last year it took 2-300 people to clean up after games.
