UPS 3rd quarter earnings

Atlanta, GA – One of the Atlanta area's largest companies is taking an optimistic approach to a decline in 3rd quarter earnings.

UPS' earnings during the 3 month period were down more than 8 percent compared to the same period last year.

However, company spokesperson Norman Black says you have to put the numbers in perspective.

BLACK : Well, actually UPS turned in a very strong performance given this economy. While our earnings were down compared to the same period last year, the company still posted some good earnings at 96 cents per share and exceeded the expectations of Wall Street.

The numbers were better than anticipated however global economic problems are affecting UPS.

Over the past year through attrition, UPS' domestic workforce shrank by 3-thousand employees.
