In wake of shooting death, Spelman tries to ease parents' fears

Atlanta, GA – The Atlanta Police Department is searching for the person who killed a 19 year old Spelman College student.

Jasmine Lynn died Thursday. Now, Spelman officials are reassuring parents worried about their kids.

WABE's Charles Edwards reports

Dr. Sherry Lynn Turner is Spelman's vice president of student affairs. She says the historically black female college has answered many calls from parents.

TURNER: "who are not just concerned about their daughter's safety but also wanting to know how to respond to their daughters when they call and are obviously in distress."

Turner points to federal data showing few acts of violence or crime on campus.
Lynn, a psychology major, went to Spelman but was shot at nearby Clark Atlanta University. That's why Turner says they're relying on the city.

TURNER: "The Atlanta Police Department is going to increase their patrols of the area but also there interested in collaborating with the public safety departments of all of the schools."

Spelman and Clark Atlanta are two schools inside the Atlanta University Center. AUC presidents will discuss campus safety next week.
